On Tuesday night, Republican Ron DeSantis easily defeated Democrat Charlie Crist.

The victory will prepare the Republican governor for a potential push for the presidency in 2024.

By a margin of almost 20%, DeSantis defeated Crist by a vote of about 59 to 40.

With more than 95% of votes, DeSantis won 59.4% of the vote with 4,607,597.

Meanwhile, the Democratic candidate, Charlie Crist, won just 40% of the vote with 3,100,603.

It was the largest margin in a governor contest in Florida since Jeb Bush won by nearly 13 points in 2002.

DeSantis also captured the Democratic stronghold of Miami-Dade County.
