United States offers deal to Russia for release of WNBA star

Deal of  Homecoming of star Britteny Griner and another incarcerated American, Paul Whelan.

Two-time Olympic gold medalist Brittney Griner, facing a trial on drug charges.

Griner has been held in detention for drug possession since February.

Griner was arrested in Moscow after officials found two cannabis vape cartridges in her baggage.

While the other american Whelan has been held in Russia for espionage since 2018.

According to the deal, Russia will release Griner and Whelan in exchange for Victor Bout.

Victor Bout, a Russian arms smuggler imprisoned in the US.

Griner's case has attracted national attention as players, general public have called for his release.

Griner, 31, could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
